Video Conferencing & Investing in Skincare

Whether you’re a student, a teacher, or some other professional who has traded their business casual for 24/7 sweats (we see you), you might be wondering if there’s any way you can treat yourself as the season shifts from summer to fall. But with less need for full back-to school or back-to-work wardrobes, what’s the excuse?
Our suggestion? Investing in self-care! One major benefit of at-home learning or working is that there’s no commute! That means more time for self-care. And for 2020, self-care = skin care.
After all, your coworkers, students, or fellow students can’t see whether or not you’re wearing pants when you connect via video — but they can see your face. So why not make that face as smooth and blemish-free as possible?
Because let’s be real: There’s not much else going on right now. Getting that glow is the perfect stay-at-home hobby. Plus, you’ll look amazing when we all get to finally take off our masks.
With so much other scary stuff going on right now, who wouldn’t want to come out the pandemic looking smoother and younger? We know it might sound trivial to some but, hey, we’re all about finding those little joys in life right now.
Facial imperfections
With so much of school and work going online, we’re all getting up close and personal with our faces. Staring at your own face for hours every day would be enough to make Angelina Jolie feel self-conscious, much less us mere mortals. All of a sudden you’re realizing that your skin care routine might not be as under control as you thought it was…
Here are some of the facial imperfections you might be noticing:
Acne
While more common in teens, people of all ages can get acne. It can be caused by a hormonal imbalance, build up of impurities in the pores, or a combination of both. Comedonal acne — which you probably know as blackheads and whiteheads — is caused by a blockage in a hair follicle, leading to a buildup of sebum (the waxy oil that your skin produces) and dead skin cells. Yuck!
There’s also inflammatory acne, which is the big red zits with white tops that just beg you to pop them. (Don’t do it! It can cause scarring!) Inflammatory acne is caused by the same blockages that cause comedonal acne, but bacteria gets in there and causes infection and inflammation.
Finally, there’s cystic acne, which is those deep, painful pimples that you can’t even pop. It’s caused by a combination of bacteria, oil, and dry skin cells that get trapped in your pores. Double yuck!
Enlarged pores
While most people would prefer a silky smooth face that looks practically pore-less, many of us deal with enlarged pores instead. Whether it’s from naturally oily skin, age, or even gender (men tend to have larger pores than women), enlarged pores often just feel like a fact of life.
Fine lines
Fine lines show up naturally around our eyes, mouths, and noses as we age. They’re especially prevalent in people with fair skin and in people who have had a lot of sun exposure over their lifetime.
Wrinkles
Wrinkles are another sign of aging that appear as your skin loses elasticity. They’re totally natural, but they do bum some people out.
Age spots
Age spots are dark, flat marks on the skin that appear when people get older. They’re especially common on people who have had a lot of sun exposure.
What’s the solution?
Luckily, there are solutions for all of these facial imperfections! Whether you’re a teenager battling acne, a teacher noticing those fine lines appearing, or an office worker whose office is now their couch, here’s what you can do to smooth out your skin.
General skin and complexion improvement
Even if you’re not suffering from a specific skin problem, you can still go for a little glow-up. The Silk'n ReVit Prestige Microdermabrasion Device is a powerful at-home microdermabrasion device. Using a diamond tip and vacuum stimulation to enhance blood circulation and strip away dead skin, visibly improving skin texture and elasticity, the ReVit Prestige will be your favorite part of your new beauty routine.
But one super important thing to keep in mind when you’re doing at-home microdermabrasion is that you have to be careful about your before and after skincare. When you take off the top layer of skin, you’re essentially creating “new” skin that’s never been exposed to the elements. That means it’s super sensitive, which can be great when you’re trying to get it to soak up expensive skincare products, but not so great when it comes to sun and other damaging elements.
Enlarged pores
The ReVit Prestige is also great for reducing the visibility of enlarged pores. You might also want to consider the Silk'n Pure Facial Cleansing Brush, a facial cleansing system that will make you feel like you’ve been pampered at a high-end salon every time you wash your face. It has a built-in cleanser dispenser, ensuring you use just the right amount every time, and it promises to remove six times more makeup than a regular cleanser. It also stimulates the skin and helps with the absorption of any products you put on afterward.
Acne
When it comes to getting rid of acne, you’ve got two options: The ReVit Prestige and the Silk'n Blue Acne Eliminator Device. The Prestige uses microdermabrasion to treat acne, especially black heads, and it can also be used to reduce the appearance of acne scars. Finally, regular use of the ReVit Prestige keeps your skin smooth and clear of dead skin cells, making you less prone to breakouts in the future.
The Silk’n Blue Acne Eliminator Device — which fans affectionately just call “Blue” — uses blue light technology to both prevent and treat acne. It’s a non-invasive treatment that reaches deep into the layers of the skin to dry oil-producing glands, ensuring they never ruin another Zoom call again.
Fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots
While none of us can stop the forward momentum of Mother Time, we can roll back some of the damage she does to our faces. One option is the Silk'n FaceFX 360 Anti-Aging Rejuvenation Device. It’s an at-home anti-aging device that uses a synergistic combination of fractional red light therapy and thermal heating to treat wrinkles, create a brighter complexion, and achieve long-term radiant skin. The Silk'n FaceFX 360 has a large treatment applicator, is safe for all skin tones, can be used anywhere on the faces, and is perfect for all adults desiring to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and visible signs of aging.
The other option for reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots is the Silk'n Titan Skin Tightening and Lifting device. The Titan is an anti-aging device that reduces wrinkles and lifts facial contours through the power of harmonized energy technology. It can be used on all areas of the face and neck and it repairs collagen and elastin fibers, from the inside out.
Titan technology delivers energy to precise areas beneath the skin to activate your body’s natural restoration process. It’s great for reducing wrinkles and fine lines around the eyes, reducing sun and age spots, improving the structure and elasticity of your skin, and rejuvenating collagen and elastin fibers. And, best of all, it doesn’t require any recovery time!
Check out beauty expert Derek Selby’s beauty talk Facebook video for a demonstration of how the Titan works and why you definitely need to add it to your beauty routine. (Spoiler alert: He uses his while hanging out and watching Netflix! Could anything be more #2020 than that??)

Hair removal
And while you’re on this skin care/self-care kick, why not add permanent hair removal to the list? That way, when we’re all back to hanging out in person you’ll have super smooth skin everywhere.
When it comes to permanent at-home hair removal, there are really only two options you should be considering: the Silk’n Flash&Go PRO and the Silk’n Infinity. But first, let’s talk about what IPL hair removal even is.
You already do some type of temporary hair removal, like shaving, waxing, or plucking. But those methods only remove the hair itself, either at skin level or just below. On the flip side, intense pulse light (IPL) hair removal is a revolutionary hair removal method that uses an intense beam of light to target and destroy the hair follicle itself, which is where the root grows under your skin. After a few sessions, the hair follicle dies and can’t grow any more hair. The results? Permanent hair removal.
But you’re not going to get that silky smooth skin immediately, which is why this fall is the perfect time to start your quest for hair-free legs, armpits, and bikini area. It usually takes a few sessions with a device like the Silk'n Flash&Go Pro to get permanent hairlessness, but every session damages the follicles a little further and stretches out the time until the next one is needed. A lot of people find that they can go as long as eight weeks between sessions when they’re in the process of repeated IPL hair removal treatments.
The Flash&Go PRO hair removal system uses our patented HPL™ (Home Pulsed Light) technology to painlessly remove unwanted hair. This technology has been cleared by both Health Canada and the FDA, supported by clinical trials, and approved by dermatologists as a safe, easy, and effective at-home system. With the Flash&Go PRO, you get clinical hair removal results without ever having to step foot in the clinic.
Are Silk’n devices safe for teens?
Whether you’re a teenager yourself or a parent of a teen who’s begging for a Silk’n device, you might be wondering if they’re safe for teens. The short answer? Yes — as long as they’re at least 16 years old. That’s for a couple of reasons that we’ll get into.
First: A teenager might not even be as hairy as they’re going to be as a full grown adult. That’s because the body is still maturing in teenage years and not every follicle starts producing hair at the same time. Some of those follicles might not even be fully active until a person is a little bit older, which means they’ll have to retreat the same area in order to get truly smooth skin, if they start too early.
Second: You can permanently remove body hair with Silk’n devices — but you can’t put it back. Anyone who lived through the early 2000s trend of super skinny eyebrows knows that following fashion trends can permanently alter your body for the worse. Plus, most people’s personal appearance goals change over time. With that in mind, it’s best for teens to approach permanent hair removal with a conservative mindset. Remember: You can always choose to continue treatment later if you want to.
Additionally, all of our skincare devices are safe for older teens as well, provided they follow the directions. If you’re a teenager, you might want to ask your parent or another adult to help you out the first time you use a device, just in case. And if you’re a parent, you’re totally in your rights to insist that you oversee the process! But rest assured: the devices, when used properly, are totally safe for teens.
Serious results
Whether you’re smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles, zapping away acne, or getting rid of unwanted body hair, you’re going to find that Silk’n devices bring serious results. And by shifting your self-care to skin care during this pandemic, when you finally get to see your friends, students, or coworkers again, they won’t even recognize you!
Get ready, world, because you’re about to come out of this with a whole new you. So, remember: For Fall 2020, self care = skin care. Get ready for your glow up.
